asked the Minister for Agriculture the total number of acres of land at present in the possession of the Land Commission for each county; and (a) if he will give a time scale for the distribution of this land; and (b) the plans, if any, he has for the establishment of a Land Authority in place of the Land Commission; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Distribution of Land.
The amount of land held by the Land Commission in each county is set out in a tabular statement which I propose to circulate in the Official Report. Every effort is being made to dispose of this land as quickly as possible but the programme may be affected by staff releases that will have to be made in connection with the new farm tax.
As regards the establishment of a Land Authority, consideration is at present being given to the whole question of future land policy and discussions on this have been taking place with farming interests. At this juncture it is not possible to indicate whether any new institutional arrangements will be required and, if so, what form they should take.
