Vol. 355 No. 10

Written Answers. - Ballymun (Dublin) Drugs Problem.

511.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that the Eastern Health Board has appointed a drugs counsellor for the Ballymun area without consulting interested bodies in the area; if he is aware that the Youth Action Project has been active in Ballymun on the drugs problem for four years now and has given invaluable service to the community and that they have a fund of local knowledge which would be beneficial to the Eastern Health Board in discharging their responsibilities in Ballymun; and if he will ensure that the youth action programme are given a hearing by the Eastern Health Board in future on matters relating to their area of activity.

I am aware that there has been some confusion surrounding the provision of counselling services for people with drug-related problems in Ballymun. I understand that the programme manager, Special Hospital Care, Eastern Health Board, will be seeing representatives of the Youth Action Project in the near future to discuss the matter.
