Vol. 356 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Rebate.

448.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a person (details supplied) in County Clare has not received a tax rebate which he claimed in 1984.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a claim for tax relief in respect of mortgage interest was received from the taxpayer in October 1984. It is regretted that, owing to an oversight on the part of the inspector of taxes, an amended certificate of tax-free allowances to take account of interest payable for the current year which should have been issued to the taxpayer in November 1984, was not issued until 15 February 1985. Any tax which may have been over-deducted from the taxpayer's earnings since 6 April last will be refunded by his employer when the amended certificate is put into operation.
