Vol. 356 No. 5

Written Answers. - Soft Drinks Prices.

453.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism when he proposes implementing the Prices Commission's recommendations concerning the price of soft drinks.

As I indicated in reply to a question on 25 October 1984 (Vol. 353, No. 3, cols. 557-561 of the Official Report) I decided to defer a decision on the recommendation of the National Prices Commission to introduce maximum prices for soft drinks sold in public houses because I considered that the trade should be afforded an opportunity to curb excessive prices themselves. Certain initiatives have been taken by the trade since then which have had a positive if limited impact. I consider that further time could be allowed to see what additional progress can be made voluntarily on this issue.
