I assume the Deputy is referring to the percentage increases in the total amount of the grants which have been paid to the local authority in lieu of both domestic rates and rates on land in each year over the corresponding total paid in the preceeding year. These increases were as follows: 1979, 10.37 per cent; 1980, 12.40 per cent; 1981, 31.94 per cent; 1982, 23.23 per cent; 1983, 15.35 per cent and 1984, 1.27 per cent.
It should be noted that the basis for the figures underlying the percentage increases was altered to a significant degree in some of these years by changes in the agricultural grant arising from changes in the rate reliefs on agricultural land.
