Vol. 356 No. 5

Written Answers. - Waterford Workers Redundancy Payments.

asked the Minister for Labour the reason for the delay in having statutory redundancy payments made to the employees of the Clover Meats plant in Waterford; and if he will arrange to have payment made immediately particularly in view of the fact that the employees in the two other plants in the group have received their payments.

There has been no undue delay in dealing with applications from the employees concerned for payment of redundancy lump sums under the Redundancy Payments Acts 1967 to 1979. The Deputy will appreciate that applications for such payments have to be examined fully in my Department to verify the entitlement of each individual employee before payments can be made. Payments have, in fact, been made to 100 former employees of the Waterford factory and it is hoped to make payments to the remaining workers in respect of whom applications have been received within the next two weeks.
