Vol. 356 No. 7

Written Answers. - Foreign Naval Vessels.

475.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the criteria used by his Department in granting or refusing permission to foreign warships to visit Irish ports and the year from which these criteria date.

Permission for foreign naval vessels to visit Irish ports on courtesy calls or to provide rest and recreation for their crews is normally granted on condition that the visit does not form part of a naval exercise and that the vessel is not carrying nuclear weapons. The practice in this matter has been established since 1967.
