Vol. 356 No. 7

Written Answers. - Louth Industrial Development.

485.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if the IDA has any plans for the construction of small cluster units in Ardee, County Louth, as there is a definite need for these units to be provided for local enterprises.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that it has no plans at present for the construction of cluster units in Ardee. The IDA is actively promoting its 6.3 acres of land in Ardee which is suitable for development as an industrial site for either large or small industry, and it is also promoting the vacant Castleguard Industries building for a suitable industrial project.

486.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism in view of the demise of the shoe industry in Dundalk, County Louth and the unacceptable unemployment crisis there, the efforts that are being made by the Government to secure a major labour-intensive industry for Dundalk.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that it has advance factory space totalling 79,500 sq. ft. and 85 acres of land available for large industrial projects in Dundalk. The IDA is actively promoting these facilities and will continue its intensive effort to locate new industry in Dundalk.
