Vol. 356 No. 7

Written Answers. - VAT on Electrical Goods.

526.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of revenue raised in 1984 from excise duties and VAT on television sets and electrical goods.

Net excise duty receipts in 1984 from (a) television sets and (b) other electrical goods (that is, video players only) are (a) £6.3 million and (b) £0.8 million. The figures are provisional.

There are no actual figures available of VAT yield from the items in question as VAT returns are not submitted in a manner which would enable the yield from individual goods to be identified. However, estimates of VAT yield in 1984 from (a) television sets and (b) other electrical goods, derived from non-Revenue statistical data are (a) £4.5 million and (b) £30 million.
