Vol. 356 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tax Rebate.

472.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that there is no refund of tax due in this case. In a return of income for the year 1984-85 which he completed on 23 October 1984 the taxpayer indicated that he had been in receipt of a social welfare contributory old age pension since December 1982. In a return of income for the year 1982-83 which the taxpayer completed in March 1983 he failed to mention that he was in receipt of this pension. As the pension in question is chargeable to income tax it is more than likely that the taxpayer has paid insufficient tax for the years 1982-83 to 1984-85, inclusive. The inspector will now communicate direct with him in the matter.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector of taxes has not been able to trace any claim from the taxpayer for repayment of tax. The inspector will now communicate direct with the taxpayer in the matter.
