Vol. 356 No. 9

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit.

135.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when investigations in connection with a claim for unemployment benefit by a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be completed.

The person concerned was in receipt of unemployment assistance until 21 August 1984 when payment was discontinued on the grounds that he was engaged in full-time employment. He contended that he was not employed on a number of days each week and his case has been the subject of extensive inquiries by a social welfare officer to establish whether he fulfilled the condition of being unemployed for unemployment assistance purposes in respect of days on which he signed as unemployed. It is expected that these inquiries will be completed shortly. He has been in receipt of supplementary welfare allowance pending the outcome of his unemployment assistance claim. He notified his local office recently that he was no longer signing as unemployed.
