Vol. 356 No. 10

Written Answers. - New Sheep Dipping Regulations.

678.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the new sheep dipping regulations are to be introduced in 1985-86; and whether the proposed additive to the dipping solution will have a detrimental effect on the colouring of the wool.

Each year my Department review results and assess progress made during the preceding statutory dipping period. A review is currently in progress of the 1984-85 dipping season and when this is completed decisions with regard to any changes considered necessary in existing legislation will be taken. Research carried out by departmental staff on the inclusion of a dye in dipping solutions has indicated that there is no detrimental effect either on the colouring or quality of the fleece.
