Vol. 356 No. 11

Personal Explanation by Minister.

The Minister for Finance has informed the Chair that he wishes to make a personal explanation and the Chair agrees.

On 5 March, in answer to a supplementary question by Deputy McGahon on Parliamentary Question No. 13, I informed the House that rewards paid to customs officers for seizure of uncustomed goods were not subject to income tax. I have subsequently been reminded by the Revenue Commissioners that such payments have always been subject to tax and, therefore, I wish to correct my previous answer and to apologise for unintentionally misinforming the House. I thank the Chair.

With the permission of the Chair, I wish to raise on the Adjournment the arrangements of the Minister for Agriculuture, the Revenue Commissioners, Allied Irish Banks and the Bank of Ireland in relation to the waiving of corporation tax in certain circumstances.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.
