I assume the Deputy is referring to increases in the total amount of the grants which have been paid to the local authority in lieu of both domestic rates and rates on land in each year over the corresponding total paid in the preceding year. The increases were as follows:— 1980, 12.83 per cent; 1981, 37.61 per cent; 1982, 56.09 per cent; 1983, 36.79 per cent; 1984, 1.05 per cent. These increases reflect changes in the reliefs available in respect of rates on land over the period and accordingly are not an indication of the net increase in the local authority's current income over the period.
