Vol. 357 No. 7

Written Answers. - Savings on Pay.

636.

asked the Minister for Finance the portion of the estimated £30 million expenditure savings on pay contained in the explanatory table of the budget that was made in the first quarter of 1985.

The revised Estimates for Public Services 1985 take account of all budget day adjustments to voted expenditures, including the revised pay allocations. Expenditure trends during the year will be monitored against the allocations in the revised Estimates.

As indicated in the statement issued on 1 April 1985 accompanying the end-March 1985 Exchequer returns, total issues in respect of supply service expenditure in the first quarter were in line with the monthly profiles drawn up to comply with the budget allocations. It should be noted that the total expenditure savings of £58.6 million on both pay and non-pay expenditures, referred to in the table explanatory of the 1985 budget, are now apportioned £24 million as to pay and the balance to non-pay.
