Vol. 357 No. 10

Written Answers. - Tax Free Allowance.

598.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange for a correct certificate of tax free allowances to be issued to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that, on the basis of information recently supplied to the inspector, it is unlikely that the taxpayer will be liable to income tax for the current year, 1985-86. An exemption certificate will now be issued to the taxpayer and any tax, which may have been deducted from his retirement pension since 6 April 1985, will be refunded to him when that certificate is put into operation. The taxpayer's liabilities for 1984-85 and earlier years now fall to be reviewed and, in this connection, the inspector will be requesting him to supply certain information to enable the reviews to be carried out.
