Vol. 357 No. 11

Written Answers. - Drainage Projects.

611.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will contribute towards the costs of lowering gullets under roadways where grants have been paid for drainage schemes by his Department.

The cost of the type of work referred to by the Deputy is taken into account in determining the level of grant payable in respect of drainage projects aided under the farm modernisation scheme and the western drainage scheme. Where, as part of the drainage project work on a county road — including bridges and culverts — is undertaken with the consent of the local authority a grant of up to 100 per cent of the approved costs in the case of a group project, or 70 per cent in the case of an individual, is available in respect of this element of the work subject, of course, to its being justified on normal cost-benefit criteria.

612.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will give details of all applications made in the last four years for reclamation and drainage work by a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and when approval will issue to the applications made.

An application was received under the western drainage scheme in August 1979 and grant aid was paid in October 1982. A second application was received under this scheme in October 1982 but cannot be dealt with at present as the number of applications received to date is more than can be catered for within the 150,000 hectare limit set by the EC.

Question No. 613 withdrawn.
