Vol. 358 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payment.

554.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Energy the reason an application for grant-aid under EC Regulation 1820/80 in respect of the supply of electricity to a farmhouse has been refused to an applicant (details supplied) in County Donegal.

Regulation No. (EC) 1820/80, which governs the western package electrification scheme, is very strict with regard to eligibility. Article 4 of the regulation provides that only applicants who are dependent principally on agriculture for their income are eligible for assistance under this scheme. On the basis of the information provided in his application form, the person concerned does not fulfil the requirement of Article 4. However, electricity supply can be extended to the premises by the ESB under normal terms, details of which are available at the local ESB office.
