Vol. 358 No. 1

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance.

567.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he is aware of the very substantial motor insurance premiums paid by disabled drivers; and if he will seek to make arrangements with the motor insurers to have special rates provided for such motorists.

I am aware that concern has been expressed about the level of motor insurance premiums paid by disabled drivers and I have asked the Motor Insurance Advisory Board, which I established on the 16 November 1984, to consider both the loadings and availability of cover for disabled drivers. The Motor Insurance Advisory Board, which has held a number of meetings to date, has taken up this matter both with the Disabled Drivers Association and the motor insurers. I expect to receive the first report of the board on this and other matters referred to them by the end of this year.
