Vol. 358 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant and Mortgage Subsidy Payments.

574.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a decision will be made in respect of an application for a £1,000 new house grant made by a person (details supplied) in County Limerick.

A new house grant will be paid shortly in this case.

575.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a £1,000 new house grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

The application in this case was received on 8 April 1985 and a grant will be paid when an inspection establishes that the house is completed and occupied and that all the conditions applying to the grant scheme have been complied with. The inspection will be carried out as soon as possible.

576.

asked the Minister for the Environment the precise criteria to be satisfied for new house grant applicants to receive the £2,000 grant payment; and the data that has to be furnished in this regard.

To qualify for the £2,000 new house grant applicants who purchase or build houses under contract will be required to show by means of a solicitor's certificate that they made contract payments on or after 1 May 1985 which included VAT at the 10 per cent rate. The form of certificate to be used is available from my Department. Where a house is not built under contract the new grant will be paid where the applicant can show to the satisfaction of the Minister that the house was completed after 1 May.

577.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will introduce regulations to enable council tenants under the low rise mortgage scheme to qualify for new grant-aids in providing their own home.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the new £5,000 grant for local authority tenants and tenant purchasers of at least three years standing who surrender a local authority house to provide a house for their own occupation. A person who opted to purchase rather than rent a newly allocated local authority house under the terms of the low rise mortgage scheme may avail of the grant on surrendering that house to the authority, provided he fulfils the normal conditions for payment of the grant.

578.

asked the Minister for the Environment when an inspection for a house improvement grant will be carried out for a person (details supplied) in County Carlow.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a house improvement grant from the person named. There is, however, an application for such a grant from a person with the same name and a broadly similar address. An inspection will be carried out in that case as soon as possible.

579.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will expedite payment of a £1,000 new house grant for a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

A grant will be paid when an inspector establishes that the house is satisfactorily completed and occupied and that all the conditions applying to the grant scheme have been complied with. The occupier was not at home when an inspector called recently and a further inspection by appointment will be carried out as soon as possible.
