Vol. 358 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - FEOGA Payments.

21.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the amount of variable premium paid to the British Government from FEOGA funds; and the amount paid to the Irish Government in calf subsidies.

In the UK, the variable premium scheme partly replaces the intervention system for beef as applied in all other member states and 40 per cent of the cost is met by way of a FEOGA contribution which amounted to 82 million ECU for 1983 and an estimated 98.5 million ECU for 1984.

The full cost of the calf premium here is met by FEOGA and receipts amounted to 9.8 million ECU, or £7 million in 1983 and to 67.9 million ECU, or £49.2 million in 1984.
