Vol. 358 No. 3

Written Answers. - Industrial Training Expenditure.

277.

asked the Minister for Labour the total amount of money allocated for industrial training in 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The amounts of money allocated to AnCO for industrial training in 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984, broken down as between Exchequer Sources and European Social Fund grants are as follows:

Exchequer

European Social Fund

1981

£30,000,000

£24,032,000

1982

£38,120,000

£36,208,000

1983

£47,881,000

£48,204,000

1984

£47,304,000

£57,208,000

The allocations under the youth employment levy included in above Exchequer amounts since 1982 are: 1982 — £19,300,000; 1983 — £32,244,000; 1984 — £38,284,000.

The figures for European Social Fund aid refer to amounts due in respect of the particular year. These amounts are not fully paid over in the year to which they refer. Capital allocations are included in the above figures. The figures given are exclusive of training grants paid to industry under IDA schemes.

The increase in funding over the period has allowed AnCO to increase its throughput of trainees from some 18,000 in 1981 to 40,000 in 1984.
