Vol. 358 No. 5

Written Answers. - Group Water Schemes.

577.

asked the Minister for the Environment when approval will issue from his Department to Coole group water scheme.

The allocation for this scheme is under consideration, and I will make a decision on the matter as soon as possible.

578.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reasons the proposed Abbeyfeale water supply extension scheme to Athea and rural areas has not been approved by his Department under EC regulations (details supplied).

I have approved the contract documents for the extension of the Abbeyfeale water supply and further progress with the scheme is a matter for the local authority. The funds available to me under the EC western package are not sufficient to finance the appropriate share of the cost of this scheme in addition to the other public water supply schemes already benefitting under the western package which, in any event, is limited to qualified schemes which will be completed by the end of the current year. The Abbeyfeale scheme would therefore fall to be funded in the normal way in due course by means of a subsidisable loan from the local loans fund.
