Vol. 358 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Kilkenny Sewerage Scheme.

590.

asked the Minister for the Environment the progress, if any, that has been made towards the allocation of funds for a sewerage scheme (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Contract documents submitted to my Department by Kilkenny County Council for this scheme are under consideration. Having regard to the large number of fully approved schemes in progress or getting to construction for which adequate finance must be provided I cannot say when I will be in a position to convey a decision on the overall scheme to the county council. I understand however, that Waterford Harbour Commissioners now propose to extend the wharf on the River Suir towards the location of the proposed sewage outfall. Kilkenny County Council have been advised to prepare revised contract documents for this section of the scheme for early approval in order that the sewage outfall pipe and the surface water drain can be constructed simultaneously.
