asked the Minister for Education if she will comment on the failure to allocate three extra teachers to the Corpus Christi primary school at Moyross, Limerick city, and the fact that children who had been promised a place on the basis that the school would have eight teachers in September will now have to be refused places; and if this failure to provide the three extra teachers will affect the commencement of phase 2 of the Corpus Christi school.

The board of management of Corpus Christi national school, Moyross were advised in 1984 of the arrangements to be followed in the enrolment of new pupils. These arrangements were designed to ensure that enrolment of schools adjacent to Moyross and the continuance of teaching posts were not adversely affected by the opening of the new school. Not more than two extra teachers, sufficient for any intake of 70 junior infants, were to be appointed in any one school year. The board has already been informed that two extra teachers may be appointed in September, but as the extra third teacher it seeks to appoint would be in addition to these two teachers, the post cannot be sanctioned.
These staffing arrangements would not affect the commencement of phase 2 of the Corpus Christi school in accordance with my statement on the matter in reply to Question No. 637 on 20 March 1985.
