Vol. 358 No. 9

Written Answers. - Wet-Time PRSI Contributions.

615.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider exempting small builders from the social welfare regulations relating to wet-time PRSI contributions in such cases as that of the employer (details supplied) in County Wexford in view of the fact that this scheme has since been abolished and in view of the fact that no claims for payment were made to his Department by this person's employees.

Under the social welfare legislation, wet-time contributions were payable in respect of employees employed in the building, civil engineering and painting trades. The scheme was abolished with effect from January 1985 under the provisions of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1985, but there is no provision for exempting any class of employers from previous liabilities under the scheme.

The employer in question owes arrears of wet-time contributions amounting to £534.04 in respect of four employees. This sum is legally due and a request for payment has issued. Any proposals which the employer may wish to make regarding payment will be considered.
