Vol. 358 No. 11

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take No. 10, Vote 39. By agreement the proceedings on Vote 39 shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 4 p.m. today and the Minister for Labour shall be called to conclude not later than 3.30 p.m. Also by agreement if a division is challenged on the Estimate today the taking of such a division shall be postponed until 8.30 p.m. next Wednesday.

On the Order of Business, would the Taoiseach indicate when he proposes to give Government time for a discussion on the OECD report published this morning with particular reference to the cuts in education, health and social welfare recommended in that report, and the relevance of these recommendations to the recent statement by the Minister for Education announcing proposals involving very substantial expenditure by the Department.

If the Deputy wishes to press for cuts in these areas, that is a matter for him. I do not propose to give Government time for it.

I suggest that the Government have a substantial input to make and are responsible for the OECD report published this morning. The Taoiseach is well aware of the fact that the OECD report recommending substantial cuts is a direct result of input by the Government.

Deputy Lenihan will resume his seat.

The Deputy is an expert at nonsense.

The Taoiseach is bluffing as usual.

People in glasshouses should not throw stones.
