Vol. 358 No. 13

Written Answers. - Clonmel (Tipperary) Labour Exchange.

617.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the gross overcrowding at Clonmel labour exchange which is a source of acute hardship to the large number of people who are obliged to attend there; if he will take immediate steps to alleviate the situation by providing additional or more suitable accommodation an avail of any other means open to him; the proposals if any that he has for the provision of a new building; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following a recent review of the arrangements for signing and paying claimants at the Clonmel office, an additional pay session each week has been introduced and certain claimants who were required to attend the office twice a week are now required to attend once weekly. It is considered that the premises are generally adequate to cater for the number of persons attending there and that the measures referred to will alleviate any particular problems that may have arisen. The signing arrangements at the employment exchange are geared towards avoiding unnecessary queueing much of which could be avoided if claimants adhered to their allotted signing times.
