Written Answers. - County Tipperary (SR) Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give particulars of the new secondary, vocational and primary schools to be provided in the constituency of south Tipperary; the up-to-date position in each case; if she will further indicate the schools listed for repairs and/or extension; when it is proposed the work will be carried out; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

1. Five new schools in the constituency of south Tipperary have been approved as follows:

(a) A vocational school at Cahir to cater for 350 students. Architectural planning has commenced. Documentation relating to Stage 2 of Planning (Outline Sketch Scheme) is awaited in my Department from the County Tipperary (SR) Vocational Education Committee.

(b) A secondary school at Fethard to cater for 325 students, to replace the existing schools run by the Patrician Brothers and Presentation Sisters. When agreement has been reached with the school authorities on the range and the extent of the accommodation to be provided architectural planning will commence.

(c) A community school at Cashel to cater for 800 students, to replace the existing schools run by the Presentation Convent, Christian Brothers and the Vocational Education Committee. Consultants have been appointed and architectural planning will be commenced shortly.

(d) A national school at Clerihan, with three classrooms and a general purposes room; a sketch scheme is being prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works.

(e) A special national school at Cashel, with four classrooms and a general purposes room. Building work is in progress.

2. Extensions are to be carried out to national schools at the following centres:

(a) extensions under construction: Newport; Powerstown; Tipperary.

(b) grants sanctioned and detail design undertaken: Emly; Lisvernane; Rosegreen.

(c) sketch schemes in course of preparation by Commissioners of Public Works: Ardfinnan; Boherlahan, Ballyneale, Clogheen, Grange, Kilsheelan, Mullinahone, Newcastle.

3. In relation to the projects not yet under construction, it is not possible to say when building work may commence.
