Vol. 359 No. 4

Written Answers. - Utilisation of Schools.

62.

asked the Minister for Education the plans she has to fully utilise vocational and other schools in Dublin where there is a fall in the number of pupils.

The question of utilising the premises of a vested national school for a purpose other than that of providing primary education is a matter in the first instance for the board of management of the school and the school's trustees.

As part of ongoing policy, my Department seeks to ensure that accommodation in existing post primary schools is fully utilised. As a consequence of this policy, I have taken decisions not to proceed with the building of four new post primary schools in the Dublin area at an estimated saving of some £8 million of the taxpayers' money.
