Vol. 359 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Donegal Timber Sales.

71.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the quantity and value of timber supplied to Ballycassidy sawmills, Enniskillen, from Monellan, Killygordon, County Donegal, forest area during the last week in May 1985; when this timber was initially purchased; when tenders were invited for this; if local interests were made aware of the lots being offered; and how many, if any, local sawmills were facilitated in the supply of timber during the period in question.

The firm in question has some residual timber in Killygordon Forest from a lot, comprising first and second thinnings, purchased by tender in June 1982. Harvesting was to be undertaken by the Forest and Wildlife Service but some of this work has still to be done. No timber was removed by the firm during the last week in May 1985. All local sawmills on the Department's mailing list were advised of the availability of the material at the time it was put up for tender. Apart from timber offered for sale under the tender system, limited quantities are made available periodically at various forests in County Donegal for local sale.
