Vol. 359 No. 9

Written Answers. - Western Drainage Scheme.

336.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will give details of the date of application, the date of inspection, and the likely date on which approval will be granted for the commencement of work for a person (details supplied) in County Galway who applied for a dry reclamation and drainage work grant under the western drainage scheme.

An application was received under the programme for western development on 12 August 1983. An inspection was carried out on 2 May 1984 and approval issued on 31 May 1984. The applicant has not so far notified the local farm development service that work has been completed.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will give details of the date of application, the date of inspection and the likely date on which approval will be given for the commencement of work for a person (details supplied) in County Galway who applied for a grant for dry land reclamation and drainage work under the western drainage scheme.

An application under the western drainage scheme was received from the person concerned on 27 October 1983, but has had to be deferred pending a decision as to what steps can be taken in regard to applications which cannot be catered for within the 150,000 ha. limit on field drainage imposed by the EC. Applications are dealt with strictly in order of receipt.

Part of the same area of land was included in an application made on 15 February 1985 under the programme for western development. This second application was investigated on 27 May 1985 but has had to be rejected since the bulk of the work would comprise drainage, which cannot be dealt with at present for the reasons mentioned.
