Vol. 359 No. 10

Written Answers. - Land Policy.

40.

asked the Minister for Agriculture in view of the unease at the amount of land being purchased by non-farmers while a high percentage of farm families have insufficient acreage to protect their livelihood, if he considers that it is appropriate to have a constructive debate on land policy.

I am at present examining the whole question of control on the purchase of agricultural land so that smaller farmers will have a better opportunity to compete on the open market. I would hope that a debate on this issue and on land policy generally will be possible later in the year in the context of legislation to give effect to the abolition of the Land Commission.
