Vol. 360 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - RTE Cork Radio.

6.

asked the Minister for Communications if he has any proposals to extend the hours of broadcasting of RTE Cork Radio.

There are no outstanding proposals from RTE for increased hours of broadcasting for RTE Cork Radio.

I understand RTE Cork Radio are seeking an extension of their hours. At present they have three hours a day. As this is Cork 800 year, the Minister should support the application by RTE Cork Radio for an extension of their broadcasting hours.

No proposal has been put to me by RTE.

Would the Minister agree that I granted an extension of broadcasting time to the Cork station? Would he agree that it was an instant success due to the high quality of reportage from that area?

The answer to all the points made by the Deputy is "yes".

If the Minister receives an application from RTE will he be prepared to consider it favourably?

That is a hypothesis I will not deal with here.

Of course, the Minister will not.

Mr. Mitchell

I will deal with it when it arises. I should say that local television in Cork, which I started, is working very well too.

It is going well in Ballyfermot, too.

Yes, in both places.
