asked the Minister for Finance the revenue raised by way of excise duty chargeable in respect of the issuing by the Revenue Commissioners of a licence authorising gaming at an amusement hall in 1956.

The excise duty receipts for gaming licences issued between 10 July 1956, when the duty was first imposed, and 31 March 1957 (the end of the financial year) were £2,170. Separate figures in respect of receipts in the period to 31 December 1956, are not available.

asked the Minister for Finance the excise duty by way of gaming machine licence duty chargeable on a gaming machine under section 46 of the Finance Act, 1975, as amended; the excise duty on the introduction of the gaming machine licence duty in 1975; the increase in the gaming machine licence duty since that date, specifying the increase made.

The excise duty on gaming machine licences was first imposed by section 46 of the Finance Act, 1975, at the full rate of £50 for an annual licence; and at the reduced rate of £20 for an annual licence restricted to the operation of machines on Sundays and public holidays only.

asked the Minister for Finance the excise duty chargeable on the issuing of a licence by the Revenue Commissioners under section 19 of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956, in 1956; and the increases in excise duty since that date, specifying the year of increase and the new rate fixed.

The excise duty on gaming licences issued under section 19 of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956, was first imposed at the rate of £40 for an annual licence in 1956. The rate was increased to £100 per annum in 1975, to £200 per annum in 1980 and to £300 per annum in 1983.

57.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of licences issued by the Revenue Commissioners under section 19 of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956, for gaming at an amusement hall in 1956, 1970, 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1984

The following is the information requested by the Deputy. The figures include not only annual licences issued during the years in question but also licences covering three month, six month and nine month periods issued during those years.
