Vol. 360 No. 1

Written Answers. - Domiciliary Care Allowance.

75.

asked the Minister for Health if he will ensure that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 will be paid the full domiciliary allowance for her two mentally handicapped daughters as she was of the opinion that she was due one month of arrears but the allowance was terminated on 10 June when her children reached 16 years; if he will arrange for a disabled person's maintenance allowance to issue to this family immediately since they have been told that they would not be paid arrears from the date of approval; and their mother is already operating under sufficient strain, if he will arrange for this matter to be dealt with very urgently.

Payments of domiciliary care allowance are made by the Eastern Health Board in the month following the month to which they relate. Consequently the final payments in the cases referred to by the Deputy were made in the month after both children reached the age of 16. There are no arrears outstanding in this case. The Eastern Health Board are examining an application for both persons in question for a disabled persons maintenance allowance. If granted, the allowances will be paid retrospective to the two persons' 16th birthday. This is the earliest date from which payments can be made under the Disabled Persons (Maintenance Allowances) Regulations.
