Vol. 360 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land for Sporting Organisations.

12.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether the Land Commission provide land for sporting organisations at the agricultural price at which it is provided to farmers or if they have a special policy for such organisations when land is allocated from an estate.

Matters relating to the allocation and price of land are reserved by law to the land commissioners and I have no function in regard to them. I understand, however, that where sports fields are allocated by the Land Commission, the aim is to recover the full price paid for the land.

Have the Minister or the Land Commission any plans to ensure that, where land is being divided in particular areas where there are no sports facilities, land will be made available to local community or sports organisations to provide such facilities?

This entirely depends on the survey which is done in the locality. The top priority for land on hands would be the small farmers for whom that particular estate was taken over in the first place. When their needs are satisfied, such organisations and sporting bodies will be looked at.
