Vol. 360 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Projects.

53.

asked the Minister for Health the new hospitals and the new extensions to hospitals proposed in the document Building on Reality, 1985-87 and when it is proposed to commence each project.

The general hospital projects which are specifically mentioned in the document Building on Reality, 1985-87 are: Ardkeen Regional Hospital, Waterford; James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown, Dublin; Castlebar General Hospital; Kilkenny General Hospital; Mullingar General Hospital; Naas General Hospital; Sligo General Hospital; Tallaght Hospital, Dublin; Wexford General Hospital; Mater Hospital, Dublin; St. James's Hospital, Dublin; Cavan General Hospital.

Tallaght and Cavan projects involve the building of a new hospital on a new site. Ardkeen involves building a new hospital on the existing hospital site. In every other case the project involves a major development on the existing hospital site and using existing buildings where appropriate.

Construction work is now in progress on the hospitals at Cavan, Mullingar, St. James's and the Mater. The timing for commencement of work on the other hospitals will depend on completion of the various stages of planning and on the availability of capital funds.
