Vol. 360 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Hospitals.

55.

asked the Minister for Health if he will outline Government policy with regard to the rationalisation of hospitals in the Dublin north city area, referring to the time scale involved and the nature of the consultation with the authorities involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is Government policy, that following rationalisation measures, the Dublin north city area will be serviced by three major acute general hospitals, namely, Beaumont, James Connolly Memorial and the Mater Hospitals. Consultations are being held with the relevant authorities as the need arises, having regard to the various planning and development stages, the necessity to maintain services and the desire to arrange for the transfer of services as smoothly as possible. The hospital rationalisation and development programme for the Dublin north city area is an ongoing process and is scheduled to be completed by the late 1990s.
