asked the Taoiseach the number of persons unemployed in the Dún Laoghaire area in (a) 1983, (b) 1984 and (c) 1985 to date; and if he will give a breakdown as between men and women and their employment qualifications.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Unemployed.
Dún Laoghaire): I propose to circulate a statement showing in table 1, the number of males, females and total persons on the live register at Dún Laoghaire Employment Exchange on the last Friday of each month from January 1983 to September 1985.
A special occupational analysis of the live register is carried out quarterly in respect of the last Friday of March, June, September and December. This analysis provides the only information available in respect of the employment qualifications of persons on the live register. Table 2 of the statement gives the results of this analysis for persons registered at the Dún Laoghaire Employment Exchange on 28 June 1985, the latest date for which information is available, and on the corresponding date in 1984. The 1983 figures are not comparable with those for the two subsequent years due to extensive recoding of registrants by occupation which was carried out in March 1984.
Following is the statement:
