Vol. 361 No. 3

Written Answers. - Youth Service Projects.

28.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will give details of the expenditure of £600,000 recently announced by his Minister of State to the National Youth Council of Ireland; if he will give the source of those funds; and if they have already been included in previous Government expenditure announcements.

In my address to the annual assembly of the National Youth Council of Ireland on 13 October last, I referred to the figure of £600,000 as being the annual cost of support from my Department for youth service projects in urban areas. Support is provided from the Department of Labour Vote (Vote 39) subhead U2 — grant-in-aid fund for youth organisations and other expenditure relating to youth — for which a sum of £2,950,000 was provided in the 1985 Estimates. I had previously adverted generally to this support as being available in my announcement of Government support for youth services on 16 May this year. Support for projects has been allocated as follows:

Dublin city £227,000, Dublin county £180,500, Dún Laoghaire-Bray £32,500 and other urban areas £160,000.
