Vol. 361 No. 5

Written Answers. - Celbridge Special School Staffing.

186.

asked the Minister for Education if she will urgently examine the situation at St. Raphael's special national school, Celbridge, County Kildare, where it is proposed to reduce the teaching staff and thereby cause serious diminution in the standard of education and attention available to the mentally handicapped attending this school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The staffing level in St. Raphael's special school, Celbridge, County Kildare, a special school for moderately mentally handicapped children, is under consideration in my Department. The school has teaching staff in excess of that normally allowed on the basis of the number of pupils on the rolls in a school of this kind. A decision will be conveyed to the school authorities as soon as my Department's investigations into the matter are complete.
