Vol. 361 No. 6

Written Answers. - Russian Meat Deal.

31.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the terms of the recently announced deal made with Russia for the meat industry.

The USSR have agreed to buy a minimum of 20,000 tonnes of beef direct from an Irish trading and beef processing company. It is likely that the eventual amount may be as high as 50,000 tonnes. As the contract is for boneless beef the supply will be from EC intervention stores. I understand the beef will be for supply between now and mid-1986.

Question No. 32 re-entered for oral reply.
