Vol. 361 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Galway Pier.

63.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will give a clear indication of his intention with regard to the construction of a new pier at Keave, Clarenbridge; and if it is his intention to proceed with the construction of this pier in the next two years.

A scheme for the provision of suitable landing and ancillary facilities at Keave was discussed by officials of my Department with the local fishermen at a meeting earlier this year. An engineering report and cost estimate in respect of the scheme has now been received from the Office of Public Works and at present my Department are carrying out a feasibility and economic appraisal of it. Pending the completion of that appraisal I cannot say what work will be justified or when such work is likely to commence.
