asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the serious position facing the mushroom industry due to the problem that compost manufacturers are having in obtaining supplies of straw of suitable quality.

The supply of wheaten straw, which is used in the manufacture of mushroom compost, has improved considerably from that envisaged earlier. The present position is that adequate supplies of reasonable quality are available to compost manufacturers.
