asked the Minister for Justice the number of persons committed to prison for non-payment of fines in each of the last ten years.

Limerick East): The information requested by the Deputy in regard to the number of persons committed to prison for non-payment of fines is contained in the Annual Reports on Prisons for the years 1975 to 1983, copies of which are available in the Dáil Library. The number so committed in 1984 was 402.
