Vol. 361 No. 11

Written Answers. - County Donegal Employment Programmes.

187.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Labour when he will issue approval to Donegal County Council for additional schemes under the social employment scheme totalling £3,025,625 giving employment to 533 people in County Donegal; and the duration of the employment.

Work projects sponsored under the social employment scheme are considered in the first instance, by a national monitoring committee comprising representatives of the Department of Labour, Department of the Environment, AnCO and ICTU.

Donegal County Council are sponsoring eight projects under the scheme. These projects were approved as initially submitted, attracting grants totalling £713,996 for the employment of 130 persons. The county council has, however, recently submitted additional work programmes to the National Manpower Service which it indicated should take the form of expanding seven of the already approved projects. The additional programmes are due to be submitted for consideration by the monitoring committee at its next meeting.
