Vol. 361 No. 11

Written Answers. - Clonmel (Tipperary) Garda Houses.

88.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the urgent need to repair and modernise the houses at Emmett Street, Clonmel, County Tipperary, occupied by gardaí and their families; the proposals he has to deal with the matter; when the work will be carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Commissioners of Public Works advise that the repair of the Garda houses situated at Emmett Street, Clonmel, would be uneconomic. Because of their substandard condition, size and layout any attempt to modernise the dwellings would be a waste of public funds.

In agreement with the Department of Justice the Office of Public Works will continue to maintain the houses as well as possible until vacated by their present occupants.
