Vol. 361 No. 12

Written Answers. - Cross-Border Trading.

77.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the increasing problems of businesses in the Border areas because of cross-Border trading and his intentions to assist them in the forthcoming budget.

The reduction in the spirits duty in 1984 and the 1985 budget changes in VAT and television duty have had a considerable beneficial effect on businesses generally in the State. Nevertheless I am aware that there are still problems for certain traders, particularly in Border areas. I will be taking this, inter alia, into account when framing the budget.
