Vol. 362 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

130.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason unemployment assistance was disallowed to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following the recent reinvestigation of his unemployment assistance claim, the means of the person concerned were assessed at £41.10 weekly, derived from benefit from his wife's earnings. The person concerned has not yet claimed unemployment assistance in respect of his wife although a letter was issued to him informing him of his right to apply to have his wife included as an adult dependant, on his claim. Accordingly, as the means assessed against him exceeded the maximum rate of unemployment assistance payable to a single person, unemployment assistance is not payable to him until he makes a claim for an increase in respect of his wife.
